An Inside Look: Sunset on Haleakala

Instead of waking at two a.m. to join hundreds of other visitors in ascending Haleakala, Maui's famous volcano, to catch the sunrise, we recommend a view just as stunning: the Haleakala sunset. On the drive to the top, make sure you appreciate the sweeping views of the island. You may want to arrive with enough time to take a swim, as your park pass will include use of the Seven Scared Pools. Bring a jacket, too; it may get a little chilly after the sun goes down, and we suggest you hang around to see the thousands of stars that seem to be at your fingertips.

Member Memory: Snorkeling with Sea Turtles

"Our concierge told us that if we wanted to swim with sea turtles, we didn't have to go to Turtle Town. She recommended snorkeling right from the shore at Makena Landing-which was great, because it took no time at all to get there from the Fairmont. The entry to the water was easy, and once we got out there and saw the massive Green Sea Turtles, we wanted to swim all day. The turtles just sort of glide slowly by, so it's easy to relax and watch them. Next time I'm bringing a better underwater camera!"

Championship Golf

You can play three championship courses just minutes away at the Wailea Golf Club's Emerald, Gold and Old Blue Courses. Golf Magazine and Golf Digest have heaped praise upon these courses, two of which were designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Your concierge can help you determine the ideal course, depending on your skill level and what course features interest you.

Spa Kea Lani

Our first recommendation is to take advantage of the Oceanside Spa Cabana, where ocean breezes and the sound of waves crashing on rocks will deepen your feeling of relaxation. But you can't go wrong with any treatment at this beautiful 5,500 square foot facility, which has tended to the finer details, such as hydraulic massage tables and marble steam rooms.
