Granby/Winter Park is the ideal destination for an outdoorsy vacation, offering an upscale rustic experience for anyone looking to breathe in fresh mountain air. Whether your ideal trip involves relaxing spa treatments, fly-fishing and horseback riding, or something more adventurous like a snowmobile ride, there’s something for everyone at the historic C Lazy U Ranch.
Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains less than two hours from Denver, Granby and Winter Park are the perfect escape for a romantic weekend or a family trip. Surrounded by the Arapaho National Forest and three wilderness areas, Winter Park is home to the longest continually operated ski resort in the entire state, but this year-round destination also offers mild temperatures in the summer for those looking for a respite from the heat. The less-frequented west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is a short drive away, while Lake Granby is the third-largest body of water in the state and is known among fly fishermen for its abundance of trout and salmon.
Opened in 1940, nearly three-quarters of the terrain is for advanced skiers and snowboarders, but the resort also offers tubing and snowshoeing. In the summer, hiking, gondola rides, and sunset yoga are popular activities.
Sitting on the iconic Colorado River, Lake Granby has a whopping 40 miles of shoreline to explore. Popular with fishermen and boaters year-round, there are three boat launches and approximately 260 campsites near the sandy beach.
Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the country and it’s only a 25-minute drive from Granby. The west entrance is the park’s best-kept secret and offers access to breathtaking scenery.
The Winter Park and Granby area is typically cold in the winter and warm in the summer. An elevation of 8-9,000 feet keeps the towns cooler in the summer, with highs typically in the mid- to upper-70s. Winters are snowy and cold, which is why locals and visitors alike flock to the area for skiing and snowboarding. While highs are usually around 30 degrees in the winter, it gets very cold at night, often down to single digits.
