Day 1

• Meet your Backroads Trip Leaders at 9 a.m. at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Natura, Reykjavík, Iceland

• Board a scenic flight to Iceland's southeastern shore, landing near Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap (1 hour)

• Shuttle to Hoffellsjökull in Vatnajökull National Park (30 minutes)

• Hike to Hoffellsjökull Lagoon (3 miles, 500' elevation gain)

• Shuttle west to the majestic Fjallsárlón Glacial Lagoon (1 hour)

• Zodiac boat cruise (45 minutes)

• Shuttle to Fosshótel Glacier Lagoon, your hotel featuring panoramic views of the dramatic Iceland landscape

Day 2

• Breakfast

• Explore the secluded Cape of Ingólfshöfdi, a Nature reserve wheresteep rocky cliffs are teeming with thousands of nesting seabirds

• Take a quick shuttle to Skaftafell National Park (set within larger Vatnajökull National Park) for an afternoon surrounded by wildflowers, mountains and waterfalls

• Your guided hike through Skaftafell National Park will take you past stunning waterfalls including the impressive Svartifoss (Black Falls).

• End your day of exploration with dinner at your leisure in the hotel’s restaurant

• Guided glacier adventure ice walk (4 Hours; children must be 10 or older to participate)

Day 4

• “Super Jeep” Expedition takes you to Thórsmörk along a remote and rocky road, past waterfalls and canyons near the active Katla Volcano (5 Hours)

• Hike the Thórsmörk Panoramic Loop (4.3 Miles; 1,000' elevation gain) or the Langidalur Route (4 Miles; 700' elevation gain)

• Explore Stakkholtsgjá canyon and waterfall (1.6 Miles)

• Return to the hotel for dinner

Day 5

• Bike fitting and safety talk)

• Bike around Thingvellir National Park, a World Heritage site and the site of the largest lake in Iceland. Choose from three routes (19, 28, 36 miles; 1500’-3500’ elevation gain)

• Learn the fascinating history of the park on during your Thingvellir Historical Walk (1.6 Miles (200’ elevation gain)

• Shuttle to ION Adventure Hotel and enjoy a well‐deserved soak in the hotel's geothermal pool

Day 6

• Geothermal Hike into the Hengill Hiking area (2, 4, or 5 Miles; 400’-1000’ elevation gain).

Acadia National Park to Penobscot Bay in Maritime Maine

Day 1

• Meet your Backroads Trip Leaders at 8 a.m. in the lobby of the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa

• Shuttle to Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park

• Waterfront picnic lunch in Northeast Harbor

• Bike fitting and safety talk

• Ride the 20-mile Bar Harbor Route (1,100' elevation gain)

• Make your way to downtown Bar Harbor where you'll find West Street Hotel

• Welcome reception and dinner

Day 2

• Kids' Boat Cruise and interactive ocean adventure (2 Hours)

• Adult bike ride along scenic Ocean Drive; highlights include Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cliffs

• Scenic gondola ride up to the Catinaccio mountain group in the Dolomites

• Lunch at a rifugio, an alpine hut offering hikers a place to relax

• Hike through meadows beside the Catinaccio mountains enjoying panoramic vistas of Bolzano

• Arrive at the Romantik Hotel Turm

• Lunch at a highmountain rifugio before carrying on toward the Gardena Valley
