Snowmass Village, a lesser-visited gem near Aspen, boasts world-class outdoor recreation with fewer crowds. Galavant—a modern standalone home less than a five-minute drive from the chairlifts—comes with a private deck with a hot tub and a view. Situated just steps from the Elk Camp gondola, stay at Slopeside, a private, quiet home with a wraparound deck and hot tub.
One Snowmass with Inspirato—a luxury residence property located at Base Village—is also less than five minutes away from world-class skiing. Choose from two-bedroom residence Grey Wolf or three-bedroom residence Coyote Hollow, both with incredible valley views. Four-bedroom Elk Camp is just a two-minute walk from the closest lifts and offers state-of-the art appliances and plenty of space, making it perfect for a family or entertaining.
A more casual alternative to the glitz and glamour of nearby Aspen, Snowmass is a perfect ski destination for families with children—its mountain offers more than 3,000 acres of green and blue runs. Plus, it’s earned the title of second-most vertical feet of skiing of any area in the U.S. At Snowmass’ Base Village, ice skate at the outdoor rink or savor a meal at one of the many restaurants. The village's casual dress code extends to all facets of the town, especially in the off-season, as locals bike to festival concerts, sip a margarita on an outdoor patio after rock climbing near Independence Pass, or grab an early dinner on the way home from a hike.
There's nothing more exhilarating than soaring over the Roaring Fork Valley in the basket of a hot air balloon. From up high, the jaw-dropping views of the Rockies can’t be beat—pair with mimosas for an unforgettable morning.
On Thursday nights, join Roaring Fork Valley locals who convene on Fanny Hill at the Snowmass ski area for free concerts by Jazz Aspen Snowmass. The acts range from folk to funk. Be sure to pack a blanket and a picnic.
With an ice rink and climbing wall, Base Village offers something that can make a winter visit to Snowmass fun even for non-skiers. Restaurants and other activities are within quick walking distance from the village, too.
If it's snowing in Aspen, it will most likely be snowing in Snowmass Village, with the area seeing well over 200 inches of snowfall on average each winter. Like any Colorado mountain destination, plan for anything: at more than 8,000 feet elevation, the weather can be unpredictable. Summers, though, tend to be warm and dry with chilly evenings, while fall offers a welcome cool and bursts of color from the area’s iconic aspen trees.
