Explore the Beauty of Montana in Whitefish

It’s always exciting when Inspirato adds new destinations to its portfolio. In fact, one of our favorite parts about being a luxury travel club is widening the world for our members.

As of this summer, we’re pleased to allow them to escape to the picturesque peaks of Montana’s snowcapped Rockies with a trip to one of our newest destinations: Whitefish. This secluded resort town with a population of about 7,000 is known for sublime skiing and is considered the gateway to one of the country’s most jaw-dropping national parks: Glacier.

Below are some of our recommendations for making the most of this special new Inspirato destination.

See Glacier National Park

Each year, this bucket-list national park welcomes more than 2 million visitors. Nicknamed “the Crown of the Continent,” Glacier National Park’s awe-inspiring scenery, lakes, and hiking trails are some of the most beautiful in the country. We recommend the 11-mile Grinnell Glacier Trail, a must-see if you have the stamina for it, or the 2.9-mile Hidden Lake Overlook.  And if you’d rather take in the scenery from the seat of a car, Going-to-the-Sun Road offers incredible views—you may recognize it from the opening scenes of The Shining.

Ski Whitefish Mountain

More than 3,000 acres of skiable terrain await at Whitefish Mountain Resort, a premier skiing destination without the long lift lines of more popular mountains. From affordable beginner’s packages to night skiing, Whitefish Mountain offers something for every level—it also averages more than 300 inches of snowfall a year. (P.S. In the summer, it transforms into an aerial adventure park, featuring zip lines, obstacle courses, and an alpine slide.)

Explore town

Whitefish began as a loggers’ and trappers’ town, and that Old West-feel is still evident as you stroll the streets of its charming downtown. In the Railway District—so named for its historic depot, which is the busiest Amtrak stop between Seattle and Minneapolis. Near the station, shop for handcrafted jewelry with Montana gems and other artisan goods. And Whitefish Lake Restaurant is the perfect place for an al fresco meal with a view.

Stay at Stillwater Retreat

This modern marvel of a home almost looks out of place amid the rugged scenery outside of town—but that’s exactly what we find so special about Stillwater Retreat. One of the newest residences to join the Inspirato Collection, this four-bedroom smart home is nestled along a serene creek and offers ample outdoor space to soak in the Montana sunshine, from its 1,200-square-foot rooftop deck to volleyball and basketball courts.
