Thanksgiving is almost here, and we hope you’re looking forward to a full day of food, relaxation, and quality time with the people who mean the most.
Spending the holiday abroad? Thanksgiving may look a little different this year, but take the opportunity to embrace the new destination, its culture, and maybe even start a new tradition or two. Read on to discover how to take advantage of all the club has to offer to make this Thanksgiving abroad a special one.
For a lot of families, the joy of Thanksgiving is found in the kitchen. But even if you’re renting a vacation home this season, you can still honor that tradition—especially in an Inspirato home.
Inspirato members will find a gourmet kitchen, equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, at every home, and the club’s Destination Concierge can even stock the refrigerator before arrival with any grocery requests—no need to stress about finding the necessary ingredients yourself in a foreign country.
Incorporate local culinary culture into the meal
You can go to great lengths tracking down turkey, cranberries, pumpkin and other Thanksgiving classics (or have your Destination Concierge help). But nearly every culture has some kind of celebratory feast in their calendar year, or a go-to dish for special occasions—why not try something new this year?
Inspirato members spending Thanksgiving in the Caribbean Islands can substitute stuffing with rice and peas. On Mexico’s Pacific Coast, pass on the pumpkin pie for a Mexican bread pudding. And among the vineyards in Tuscany, complement the main course with rosemary roasted potatoes, or a creamy chestnut soup.
Savor a multicourse meal at a renowned restaurant
If cooking isn’t exactly your forte, plenty of Inspirato’s resort partners are offering special Thanksgiving menus. One&Only Palmilla, nestled into Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, will be serving two special Thanksgiving dinners on Nov. 27–29, from a beachside meal prepared by Michelin three-starred Chef Christopher Kostow, to a more traditional meal in the resort’s on-site restaurants, Agua and SEARED.
And for convenience at its utmost, hire a private chef to prepare a Thanksgiving meal right in the residence; enjoy dinner with locally inspired flair without having to lift a finger.
Bring a special bottle of wine from home
A special way to take a little bit of home along with you is to pack a special bottle of wine—particularly one that you may have been saving for a special occasion. With a little bubble wrap, easily slip it into a suitcase, tucked amid clothes for some better insulation. Better yet, purchase a special bottle bag from a luggage store to ensure safe passage.
Take a post-dinner walk—or explore
The post-dinner walk, often fueled by the guilt of overeating, is an annual activity for some. But if this Thanksgiving has brought your family to a new destination, add to the fun this year with a little exploration. Opt for a sunset walk through Tuscan vineyards, an outing on a sea kayak, or even just a few laps at the in-residence pool. The possibilities are endless.
Whether you’re spending it at home or abroad, we’re wishing you a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving from all of us here at Inspirato.
