I can shop endlessly, and\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0never met anyone who could out shop me. That\u2019s why, when I read about the city of <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.inspirato.com\/destinations\/bordeaux-france\/accommodations\/\">Bordeaux\u2019s<\/a><\/span> Rue Sainte-Catherine \u2014 said to be the longest pedestrian shopping street in all of France \u2014 my heart started to beat a little faster.It\u00a0wasn&#8217;t\u00a0long before I realized that distance\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0the only thing Rue Sainte-Catherine has going for it. This relatively narrow street, closed off to traffic, is lined with beautiful architecture: three- and four-story buildings carved in creamy stone and embellished with wrought-iron balconies. At one end of the promenade is the Place de la Victoire, a vast plaza surrounded by ornate buildings and decorated with an arch and obelisk, and at the other is another expansive Place de la Com\u00e9die featuring the Grand Theatre, the majestic performance hall for Bordeaux\u2019s ballet and opera. But let\u2019s get to the shopping.<\/p>\n<h2>Galleries Lafayette\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Galerie Bordelaise<\/h2>\n<p>Two of the biggest draws on Rue Sainte-Catherine are <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.galerieslafayette.com\/\">Galleries Lafayette<\/a><\/span>, the famously glitzy and fabulous Parisian department store, and Galerie Bordelaise, a shopping mall that opened in 1834. The entire length of the street is lined with the biggest names in European fashion and goods: <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.promod.eu\/\">Promod<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.zara.com\/fr\/en\/z-stores-l1404.html?v1=11108\">Zara<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.etam.com\/\">Etam<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.fnac.com\/\">Fnac<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.hm.com\/\">H&amp;M<\/a><\/span> and <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.kookai.com\/\">Kooka\u00ef<\/a><\/span>. And, those with a shoe addiction, be warned: There\u2019s a particular proliferation of shoe shops including Beryl, Staggy, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.bata.com\/\">Bata<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.minelli.fr\/femme\">Minelli<\/a><\/span>, <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/texto-chaussures.com\/\">Texto<\/a><\/span>, Aliz\u00e9. So yes, the vast majority of shops here are chain stores. If you decide to visit, you should plan on doing some serious power shopping \u2014 this\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0light window-shopping at small, indie boutiques (though there are <span class=\"extra-bold\"><a href=\"\/\/www.inspirato.com\/destinations\/bordeaux-france\/\">plenty of places for that in Bordeaux<\/a><\/span>, too).
