Few places feel as epic and untouched as New Zealand. With its glacier-carved fjords, geothermal valleys, lush rainforests, and snow-dusted peaks, it’s one of the most visually diverse countries in the world—a perfect stage for adventure. That’s why Inspirato selected it to launch the 2026 international travel calendar, with a ten-day itinerary designed to showcase the very best of the North and South Islands.
The original plan was ambitious and beautiful: soak in thermal pools in Rotorua, cruise the crystalline waters of Lake Taupo, fly over the dramatic cliffs of Milford Sound, and hike through high alpine trails outside Queenstown. Every day held a different kind of landscape, and every stop was chosen to immerse members in the wild charm that defines New Zealand.
But just as the group arrived, so did a tropical storm.

Rather than taking away from the experience, the shifting weather reshaped it. And thanks to the leadership, creativity, and calm presence of Megan, Taylor, and Rachel, the trip became something more personal, more flexible, and ultimately more memorable.
When the plan changed, the experience didn’t
From the first few days, it was clear the itinerary would need to adjust. Megan and Taylor, hosting on the ground, worked closely with local partners to reorganize days thoughtfully and communicate changes clearly. Activities were re-sequenced, timing adjusted, and alternatives introduced in ways that still honored the original spirit of the journey.
Behind the scenes, Rachel ensured everything stayed aligned. She coordinated logistics, supported real-time decisions, and helped make sure that every adjustment translated into a smooth experience for members. Together, the team created a sense of ease and confidence that allowed the group to relax and stay present.
“It’s so refreshing knowing that you all have this handled and I won’t have to worry about a thing.”
That trust was summed up perfectly by one of our members, who shared during the trip: “It’s so refreshing knowing that you all have this handled and I won’t have to worry about a thing.”
New Zealand still delivered
Despite the unpredictable weather, New Zealand delivered.
Helicopter flights over Milford Sound revealed cascading waterfalls and dramatic cliffs, made even more striking by the mist and clouds. One of the most memorable days took members deep into the wilderness around Queenstown for a series of unforgettable adventures centered around Earnslaw Burn.

The day began with a scenic drive to the small settlement of Glenorchy at the head of Lake Whakatipu, followed by a helicopter flight over the lake and the Dart Valley. After landing near the trailhead, members embarked on a hike through Earnslaw Burn, where glaciers, alpine meadows, and a series of waterfalls offered views that felt almost otherworldly. Surrounded by ancient terrain and the quiet rush of meltwater, many described it as the most beautiful hike they had ever taken.

But the day didn’t end there.
Helicopters were waiting post-hike for a second scenic flight—this time through the mountains toward the edge of Mt. Aspiring National Park. After landing along the Dart River, the group boarded a private jet boat for an exhilarating journey through the glacier-fed, braided shallows. Along the way, local guides shared stories of the Greenstone Trail and Māori legends tied to the land.
The final chapter of the day came from the air once again. Pilots met the group for a spectacular flight into Milford Sound, soaring over alpine lakes and forest-lined valleys before descending into the dramatic, iconic fjord. With a final alpine landing en route, the experience wrapped with a jaw-dropping view of New Zealand’s most famous natural wonder.

When a planned lake cruise in Taupo was later canceled due to weather, the group shifted gears and spent a relaxed afternoon at Huka Lodge instead. Fires were lit, drinks were shared, and a spontaneous game of pickleball broke out with the local host. The energy stayed light, and the setting couldn’t have been more ideal.

Each of the accommodations offered comfort and character, but Huka Lodge stood out for its warmth, hospitality, and timeless charm. It became a place where members slowed down, connected, and appreciated being exactly where they were.
What the trip became
For many, this was their first Inspirato Only experience. What they discovered was that the value of the journey wasn’t tied to sticking to a perfect plan. It came from the way the group showed up for one another, the flexibility built into each day, and the reassurance of knowing a capable team was handling every detail.
By the final days in Queenstown, it was clear that the storm hadn’t defined the trip. The people did.

A trip that set the tone for 2026
New Zealand offered its dramatic beauty, shifting skies, and unforgettable landscapes. And Megan, Taylor, and Rachel delivered the kind of care and leadership that turned uncertainty into confidence and change into opportunity.
The itinerary may have evolved, but the experience stayed true to what Inspirato does best: taking members somewhere extraordinary, and making sure they feel fully supported every step of the way.

This was a strong start to the year—and a trip that will be talked about for a long time to come.
