Summer in Scottsdale might be the off-season for some, but for Inspirato member Karen Carpenter and her family, it was the perfect destination for a quick, end-of-summer getaway.

With limitations posed by her daughter’s school sports schedule, Karen said she had a very small window to book a trip. They originally hadn’t wanted to venture too far from their home in Ohio, but when Karen saw prices for flights to Phoenix—about a third of what they’d normally pay—she knew she’d found their destination.

“We wanted to do something where (my husband) could golf, but then my teenage daughter and I wanted to do things on our own as well, because we don’t golf. So for us, it’s important to have dual activities, so to speak,” she said.

And though she mentioned that a few people thought she was crazy for going to Scottsdale at the end of the summer, “it was the same temperature in Ohio, but without the humidity, so it felt fine.” The three-hour time difference between Arizona and their Midwestern home helped, too; her husband would easily be able to get up for tee times before 7 a.m. to beat the heat.

The family booked Parnevik in Scottsdale with Jaunt, and set off for a three-night stay at the end of July.

While her husband hit the links, Karen and her daughter made the most of their time in Arizona. Among the activities that the two squeezed into their three days were a Grand Canyon tour, Jeep off-roading, and shopping the boutiques in Old Town Scottsdale.

“I loved the (Grand Canyon) tour that Inspirato recommended,” Karen said. “Everything just felt very maintenance free. They picked us up, dropped us off, and it could not have been better for what I was looking for; I just wanted to be on vacation and relax, and I was totally able to do that with this tour group.”

Through a combination of Westwind Air Service and Pink Jeep Tours, Karen and her daughter were able to experience the best of the Grand Canyon. A quick flight via Westwind got them from Phoenix to the national park. There, the Jeep tours picked them up to explore the park with plenty of stop-offs along the way, all culminating in a picnic lunch on the edge of the canyon. Between the transportation and the tours, the whole day was “seamless,” Karen said.

The family also loved taking in desert vistas from the house, nestled among the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.

“Just the atmosphere around it, the environment and landscape encapsulated exactly what you’d think of when you picture Scottsdale,” she said. “There were really beautiful cacti, and it was just maintained with the whole Southwest vibe.”

And as their short vacation came to an end, Karen noted that this trip was a perfect example of why they’re members of the club.

This is what we signed up for—we signed up for a high level of service. And this trip just checked all the boxes. It was affordable through Jaunt; the accommodations were high end; the service was exceptional.

“We have certain standards that we’ve grown accustomed to, and to know that they’re always going to be met when I travel with Inspirato is just such a relief,” she said. “It just really feels like a vacation.”
