While most of the U.S. is beautiful during the summer, Southern California’s year-round appeal reaches its peak during these months, thanks to its mild climate, abundant sunshine, and endless array of entertainment. The city of Rancho Palos Verdes – located on a peninsula above the Pacific Ocean, about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles – embodies all of that and more. Inspirato Members stay at the Terranea Resort, a 102-acre slice of coastal paradise inspired by the Mediterranean.

Terranea Resort has become a favorite destination of Inspirato Members, many of whom make repeat visits to the oceanside retreat:

We've stayed in three villas at Terranea, through Inspirato, and all have been fabulous. The on-site restaurants are great, and offer a nice variety. I always tell people that there's the perfect amount of activity at Terranea, and there's truly something for everyone... hiking trails, pools, golf, spa, water activities (kayaking and paddle boarding), and a fun kids' club. We had a great time, and can't wait to return!

We asked our members the top five reasons they keep coming back to Terranea to help inspire your summer vacation plans.

1. Resort amenities

When members say there’s “truly something for everyone” at Terranea, they mean it. The resort features a lengthy list of on-site amenities, including its most popular feature: The Links at Terranea, a par-3 nine-hole walking golf course with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Members also praise the resort’s extensive network of hiking trails that hug the coastline, six dining options, and the 50,000-square-foot spa. Traveling with children? Kids as young as 3 can join programs that emphasize outdoor activities and learning about marine life.

2. Residences

Inspirato offers multiple residences at Terranea, all beautifully appointed with indoor/outdoor fireplaces, spacious patios, and picturesque views. Accommodating up to seven people, these residences are ideal for families, groups of friends, and any traveler looking for room to spare and convenient access to amenities.

3. Nearby activities

Members would be hard-pressed to run out of things to do at Terranea, but there are numerous off-site activities in the surrounding area to add to an itinerary. Soak up the sun and sand at Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, or Manhattan Beach, all under 45 minutes away. Top theme parks are about an hour’s drive, offering an endless variety of family-friendly fun.

A bit further afield, members can find even more things to pack into their itinerary. Depending on traffic, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and other iconic spots in the Los Angeles area are within a 90-minute drive. For a truly memorable experience, head offshore to Catalina Island. This small island, located about 22 miles off the coast, is a haven for swimming, activities like zip lining and parasailing, and for simply soaking up the sun.

4. Weather

Southern California’s weather is reliably pleasant year-round – but it reaches its peak during summer. Average temperatures hover in the mid-70s and rarely peak above 80; precipitation totals are negligible. This is also the best time for swimming in the ocean, as the water is usually too cold the rest of the year.

5. Easy to reach

Rancho Palos Verdes is one of the easiest destinations to reach in the Inspirato Collection. We recommend flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX); from there, members can either take a rental vehicle or private transportation for the approximately 40-minute drive to Terranea. Getting a rental car depends on how often members want to leave the resort, but getting around without one is easy – Terranea offers complimentary transportation within the resort and a 5-mile radius beyond. Whatever members choose, the club’s Member Care and concierge teams are happy to handle the arrangements.

In Rancho Palos Verdes and beyond, traveling with Inspirato is the best way to spend time off over the summer. Explore all vacation options and learn more about how an Inspirato summer vacation is sure to make lasting memories.
