Discover Southern Charm in Historic Savannah

One of the newer destinations to enter the Inspirato portfolio is Savannah, Georgia—a coastal city steeped in Southern charm. Known for its antebellum architecture, rich history, and dynamic culinary scene, this city is ripe for exploring. Here are a few of our favorite activities when visiting the Hostess City of the South.

Get artsy

Home to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and the oldest public art museum in the Southeast, Savannah has quite an artistic community. Visit the SCAD Museum of Art to see inspiring contemporary art from both established and emerging artists. With Telfair Museums, you can buy one ticket and get entry into three buildings: Telfair Academy, Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, and the contemporary Jepson Center for the Arts. Get a glimpse into home life in the 1800s at Davenport House Museum—one of the oldest brick structures in the city, where furnishings and artifacts are on display.

Go on a ghost tour

Savannah is considered one of America’s most haunted cities. Thrill seekers from around the globe visit the city in hopes of experiencing the paranormal. The best way to explore Savannah’s spookier side is on a walking ghost tour, of which there are many. For instance, Genteel & Bard’s Ghost Encounter Tour will take you through Savannah’s most haunted locations like the Sorrel-Weed House, Madison Square, and Colonial Park Cemetery.

Take to the water

Stroll along Savannah’s scenic waterfront on historic, cobblestoned River Street, or take a river cruise to see the city from the water. If you’re looking to cool off with a beach day, Tybee Island is just 20 minutes from Savannah and offers great surfing and seafood. While you’re there, explore the Tybee Island Light Station, dating back to 1736, or take a sea kayak out on the water.

Stay at the Mansion of Forsyth Park

Visiting the enchanted 30-acre Forsyth Park is a can’t-miss activity for any visit to Savannah. You can kill two birds with one stone and stay at one of Savannah’s most distinctive luxury hotels right across from the park: the Mansion on Forsyth Park. Located in the heart of Savannah’s historic district, you’ll be strolling distance to nearby parks, museums, incredible dining, shopping, and the best breweries and bars the city has to offer. With a heated outdoor pool, spa, art gallery, and cooking school on site, it will be hard to stray too far from this striking Southern Gothic hotel.
