Dreaming of an island paradise? No need to leave the U.S. Celebrate the height of summer with a look at some of our favorite American islands—all just a quick domestic flight away.

Santa Catalina Island, California

Get a feel for the Mediterranean with a trip to Santa Catalina, just a quick, one-hour ferry ride from multiple Los Angeles ports. Book a ride on the island’s world-famous glass bottom boat to peer down at the abundant underwater critters at Lovers Cove Marine Preserve, or lounge oceanside with a drink in hand from Descanso Beach Club.

Kiawah Island, South Carolina

Experience laid-back South Carolina Lowcountry living to the fullest with a visit to Kiawah Island. A golfer’s paradise, this 10-mile stretch of beaches and Southern serenity offers seven world-class courses designed by the greats, including Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. Inspirato’s eight standalone homes on the island offer private pools and easy beach access.

Kauai, Hawaii

Hawaii’s famous Garden Isle has set the scene for many a blockbuster, from Jurassic Park to Avatar. Explore Kauai’s lush rainforests with a zip line tour, or take the Waimea Canyon Drive and see “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific” from the overlook. Stay at the Lodge at Kukui’ula, a secluded resort community nestled along the island’s southern shores, featuring a saltwater lagoon-style pool and 10-acre organic farm.

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

An idyllic New England getaway, this summertime staple has beckoned East Coasters for centuries. Martha’s Vineyard, only accessible by plane or ferry, lies just off the coast of Cape Cod. Stroll the streets of Edgartown and duck into its quaint boutique shops, or see the famed gingerbread cottages in Oak Bluffs. (Be sure to enjoy some fresh seafood, too.)

San Juan Island, Washington

The most populous of its namesake island chain, San Juan Island offers a serene escape amid the gorgeous scenery of the Pacific Northwest. Spot orcas and otters from its shore, or get an up close look with a day on the water, paddleboarding or sea kayaking. Stay at The Thompson Seattle and take the San Juan Clipper to the island.

Sea Island, Georgia

This retreat on a privately owned island offers the utmost in Southern hospitality, tucked within Georgia’s picturesque Golden Isles. Explore Sea Island’s historic Cloister building at the heart of the resort, surrounded by lush gardens, and partake in activities from hunting to horseback riding.

Islamorada, Florida

Situated within the aquamarine waters off the coast of Southern Florida, the Keys feel like a Bahamian getaway without leaving American soil. One of our favorites clusters of islands within them is the village of Islamorada, known as the sport-fishing capital of the world. Try it yourself with a deep-sea fishing charter, or opt for a scuba dive to find the famous Christ of the Abyss statue off the coast of nearby Key Largo. Stay at Albright, Arbor, Palomar, or Halyard, four new Inspirato homes all within the exclusive Isles of Islamorada resort community.
