Your Inspirato Guide to Après-Ski in Style

Winter has arrived, bringing with it joy to skiers and snowboarders who have been impatiently waiting for the snow to fall. And yet, for many, the thrill of skiing is only half the experience of the season. Enter après-ski, the cherished tradition of kicking back after a day on the slopes with good company, spirited libations, and tasty snacks for refueling.

What is Après-Ski?

French for “after ski,” “après-ski” is a time to loosen your boots, set your helmets aside, and rehash the day’s adventures. When the lifts stop spinning around 3 p.m., skiers start to seek the perfect spot to rest their legs and enjoy a beverage. For some, it could look like sipping champagne on a crowded slope-side patio, for others, it could be gathered around the fireplace with a cup of cocoa and a board game. Whatever your après style, we’ve gathered some of our favorite places to experience après-ski at its finest. Cheers!

Après-Ski in Breckenridge

Nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Breckenridge offers a charming and lively après-ski scene. For on-mountain après, TBar is a hot spot, featuring a large patio and expansive views of Peak 8—including the T-Bar it’s named after. It’s the perfect place to soak in the Colorado sun and people-watch. Off-mountain, the historic Main Street comes alive with an array of cozy pubs and lively breweries; the Breckenridge Distillery is a must-visit, where you can savor craft spirits in a rustic setting while recounting your best runs of the day.

Après-Ski in Aspen

Aspen is synonymous with luxury, and its après-ski scene is no exception. The world-class resort town boasts high-end restaurants, chic lounges, and celebrity sightings. Ajax Tavern at the base of Aspen Mountain is the place to see and be seen, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and legendary truffle fries.

At Aspen Highlands, you’ll find the mid-mountain bistro so notorious Vogue magazine published an article about it, titled, “Inside Aspen’s Cloud Nine: Where the World’s Wildest Ski Party Happens Twice a Day, Every Day.” Snag a 2 p.m. reservation and watch the debauchery unfold, with champagne bottles popping among the fondue, raclette, and apple strudel being served.

Après-Ski in Park City

In Park City, Utah, you’ll find plenty of establishments for an afternoon après session that seamlessly blend historic charm with modern flair. After conquering the slopes of Park City Mountain Resort, head to High West Saloon, the world’s only ski-in gastro-distillery. With a diverse menu and house-made whiskey, it’s an ideal spot to enjoy the mountain views.

Tahoe: Lake Views and Après-Ski Bliss

Lake Tahoe’s unique combination of stunning lake views and world-class skiing makes it a standout destination for après-ski. Head to The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, for a champagne experience in a sophisticated atmosphere with a cozy fireplace and panoramic mountain views. For a more casual setting, The Chamois aka “The Chammy” is where you’ll find the locals hanging out, comparing their vertical feet achieved for the day.

Telluride: Quaint Charm in the San Juan Mountains

Telluride’s remote location makes it feel truly special, and the après-ski scene is a testament to its unique appeal. For on-mountain après, do your best to snag a table at the no-reservations, European chalet-style Alpino Vino. At 11,966 feet, it’s one of the highest elevation restaurants in North America. If you’re graced with one of Telluride’s many sunny winter days, sit outside on the expansive deck, grab a sheepskin throw, and take in the mind-bending views with a glass of Italian wine. And at the top of the gondola, Allerd’s is renowned for its truffle fries and old fashioneds.

Down in town, cozy up at the New Sheridan Hotel’s Historic Bar—Telluride’s oldest bar dating back to 1895. Or kick back at the Telluride Distilling Company Tasting Room, known for award-winning spirits and wild game brats and sausages.
