Labor Day Weekend stay in Cancun

We spent 3 great nights at the Waldorf in Cancun and I will provide some feedback to hopefully help others below:

Overall, the hospitality experience was as fine as we have had at any of the ultra-high-end resorts that we have been to as a part of Inspirato and otherwise. The occupancy was very low due to the heat I assume but that didn't diminish the experience at all.

Below, I will give some of my thoughts on a 100 point scale.

Hotel Facility (98 points) – The only reason for less than 100 is that the entrance and drive from the highway, which takes about 7 minutes, is just not very impressive/manicured. There are logistical reasons for this but if you're expecting a Cabo experience (Esperanza, Montage, Chileno Bay), it's not that and I could argue it doesn't matter. Once inside, the feel is clean, cool and sophisticated.

Suite (99 points) – Probably better than advertised on the website and includes two small pools, a large dining room, reasonable kitchen (that we didn't use for cooking – but could have) and pool table. My only critique is that the living room felt somewhat sterile and could have used an area rug and some furniture reorientation.

Food (100 points) – We ate at every restaurant ad each bite of food was simply exceptional.

Service (100 points) – Literally every person throughout the hotel was engaging, friendly and anxious to provide whatever we needed.

Beach (97 points) – We go to Cancun vs Cabo (which is far closer) for the Beach that we enjoy (warmer water, blue/clear water, swimmable, and finer sand). All of those things were present except the crystal-clear water. I mentioned this to the hotel staff and they said they've heard that comment before.

Spa (98 points) – We had two massage treatments, and both were excellent. The hydrotherapy pools are kind of a different spin on the spa experience and though they didn't move the needle for me, some might like them. I would have like to have some sort of cold-water component, but I realize they have come into favor more recently. My small deduct is that the staff was just slightly overattentive and by way of example, when I go to a spa, I know what I want to do…. steam, sauna shower and for what duration. The staff seemed to try to direct patrons where to go and for how long. I would understand this of there was a crowding issue, but I was alone in the spa area.

We had one meal off site at a place called Taboo which is a high energy restaurant that is a part of the Rosa Negra group. It was very good and if I were to do it again, I would book a later reservation to experience the shows which start around 9:30.

Overall, we had an amazing experience and will be back and I will be curious how things will be with a higher occupancy,
