Location

Flying in to Milan-Malpensa Airport is the easiest way to reach Lake Como. Many airlines offer service here, including Alitalia, British Airways, United, Delta, KLM, and Lufthansa. There are daily connecting flights from most major cities. Lake Como and Il Sereno are 37 miles, or an hour from Milan-Malpensa. Taxis are plentiful, or your destination concierge can reserve a rental car for you. Il Sereno is located on the eastern side of the lake in the small village of Torno.

Il Sereno is Italian Heaven

Il Sereno was absolutely perfect in every way as we stayed for 6 nights in Alcove Suite to conclude our two week Italy and Switzerland trip. We had a driver pick us up in St Moritz after a trip on the Glacier express and the moment we pulled in the front gate the more I knew this was perfect place for us to unwind. I cannot say enough great things about the staff at this place from all the help from the concierge planning ahead of time to the check in of the room the professionalism did not disappoint. Our room was as described and shown and we were in the actual room shown. Private and away from pool and restaurant with great balcony and room with a lake view. Bed was super comfy and bathroom with large shower and tub were great. Room includes lots of free items in mini bar and bonus that description doesn’t tell you is that their wonderful breakfast is included every day and it’s a great way to start the day.

We used all the amenities at the hotel as we got massages two days and they were great. Federica did wonders with my back and calves. We used the pool almost every day with great and attentive service by Dennis and company. We took out the small Riva boats one day and it was great and then we did 6 hour boat tour with Fabrizio in a larger wooden boat and that was outstanding.

Al Lago is the best restaurant around by far as we ate here 3 nights and we did set menu one night and à la carte the other two nights. Service here is excellent and Leonardo our Sicilian bread expert was always right on point. The Som was also very excellent.

Torno is smaller town and for us it was perfect. We wanted to relax and that we did. Way more low key than Bellagio or Varenna and we loved it. This place is heavenly in every way and already trying to figure out a way to come back.

Definitely going back...

We arrived on a Sunday after a week at Villa Dante in Greve in Chianti. We were relaxed and thinking how much we already missed the villa. That feeling disappeared the moment we drove through the front gate of il Sereno. The very first thing that you notice is the staff. They are all friendly, attentive and professional. We came to know several by name. Gloria at the front desk and Elena in the restaurant. Elena would be there for dinner and then back again early in the morning brining for breakfast bringing coffee and rolls to your room. Whatever you do, make sure you take the time to enjoy this hotel. The setting, pool, bar, restaurant and spa are wonderful. While there is a spa, this is not a ‘spa’ hotel. The treatments are wonderful but don’t expect the full spa experience. It is small but sufficient.

We had to swim in the lake. Our hesitation to jump in was overcome by some local boys that basically were calling us chickens. The hotel has some paddle boards and pretty easy access to the lake.

Our plan was to take the ferry to the villages around the lake, explore and have lunch. This worked out perfectly. The rides are affordable and each town is unique in it’s own way. Then of course back to the hotel for relaxing by the pool overlooking the lake and dinner. The small town of Torno has some nice and very affordable restaurants. The front desk can guide you if you want to walk to dinner. Let the restaurants guide your selections. We rarely went wrong leaving it to them.

We booked a tour with Gabriel on his perfectly maintained boat. This is his home and he is proud to share all the details which we enjoyed. We brought a bottle of sparkling wine and some snacks for our sunset tour.

We really fell in love with Como and il Sereno. We were enjoying our coffee on our last morning, delivered before the kitchen opened so we could make our flight home from Milan, and realized that after two weeks, we weren’t homesick and how much we loved sitting on the balcony overlooking the lake and just taking it all in. This is a special hotel in an amazingly beautiful place.

Pictures don’t do the lake or the hotelit justice.
