Relaxing Stay at the Grand Hotel

Disembarking after a comfortable ferry ride to Mackinac island (pronounced MACK-in-aw) it's like stepping back in time to where life is more unhurried and peaceful, and travel is by walking, horseback, horse and carriage, or bicycle. Most of the buildings are from the 1880s and the Grand Hotel represents the epitome of luxury living and tourism from that period. There are many places to dine close to the hotel, but the dining and evening drinks and dancing at the Grand Hotel itself is an elegant, "one of a kind" experience. One also must try the Cupola Bar, the highest point of the hotel with tremendous views.

We stayed in the Signature Balcony Suite King located at the east end of the hotel. The balcony was large and sunny and provided great views of the sunrise, the gardens, and oar ships passing through the straights. It was quite peaceful watching the many horses and horse drawn carriages moving up and down the road and listening to the clopping of horses hooves just as it must have been 150 years ago.
