Location

The most convenient airport is Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR). From the U.S., you'll connect via Paris, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or another major European city. There are also flights into Pisa's Galileo Galilei Airport and Rome's Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport, both of which are about two hours away.

From Florence, you'll drive about 90 minutes to reach your hotel. You'll likely want to rent a car in order to explore the vast countryside. La Corte dei Papi has an on-site rental car desk, and club partner Avis is always happy to help. If you prefer private transportation service, just let your concierge know. Even better, La Corte dei Papi is about 50 minutes to one hour and 45 minutes away from our Inspirato Residences in Tuscany, making the hotel an excellent choice for a multi-stop vacation in one of Italy's finest destinations.

La Corte dei Papi doesn't seem like it knows what it wants to be -- luxury hotel or rural limited service bed and breakfast.

Things started on arrival. Narrow driveway where the first turn is to someones residence; no signage at all on where to go. Did I make wrong turn? At check in, we seemed to be the only persons there; all lights were off. We accepted the offer to have luggage brought over from the convenient parking area. An hour later we checked on where the bags were and they showed up about 10 minutes later.

La Corte dei Papi is off the beaten path; about 10 minutes to the Cortona parking lots (for which they had no maps; just an impossible to read print out from Google). A rental car (beware the speed cameras seemingly everywhere and frequently changing speed limits, which no Italians seem to abide by -- they know where the cameras are) or likely pricy cab rides are a necessity.

Similarly, there were no written insights provided (e.g., how to get from parking lot to escalators; and to carry a lot of coins for parking charges with incredibly frustrating meters; use the flag hieroglyphic to change language and feed the coins fast or it will cut you off; credit card supposedly taken but didn't work for us) though the staff had good suggestions about restaurants and the e-bike tour with Roberto was terrific; highly recommended though pricy.

The location is okay, with some other houses and agricultural fields in back but no inviting public spaces (though there is a large swimming pool in an enclosed area).

The room was tremendously large by European standards and well appointed, though the Empire style furntiture is not terrifically usable. But the room was missing many of the little essentials. There was a refridgerator / mini bar -- but no wine opener (after a trip to the desk one was finally found that I could "borrow" for a short time -- the server took it back after one use), glasses or small plates. Or cream for the in room coffee. On a hot day, the HVAC would definitely struggle to keep the room cool.

Our stay was acceptable but not the usual Inspirato fine touches and high level of service.

Beautiful boutique hotel with outstanding service

We cannot say enough good things about our experience here, and specifically the graciousness, service and attention to detail of host and owner, David, who clearly goes out of his way to ensure all is perfect, including advice on day trips in the region. This delightful boutique property has 16 rooms in a postcard valley setting just outside of Cortona. It is not only a great base to explore the region, it is beautifully done in its own right, and the restaurant is excellent. It is so relaxing there you hate leaving and love returning. We will be returning

just keeps getting better

We first discovered this 16 room gem with Inspirato in 2016. This is our third visit, and it keeps getting better. David Papi is the owner of this property that has been in his family for 8 generations. The pride certainly shows! The pool has been completely renovated and it is a perfect place for uncrowded relaxing. The place is so warm and inviting that we struck up conversations with other dining guests easily. The quality of the meals is first rate. I hope this property remains in the Inspirato portfolio; so that other members can discover. We certainly will be returning. It’s like being welcomed back into a family home.

Lovely, charming, fabulous

David and his staff welcomed us with open arms...and bottles of wine after flight problems caused us to miss the first half of our trip. The property is charming, and our suite was gorgeous. It has been tastefully updated, yet maintains its historic charm. The chef creates fabulous dinners, and the wine selection nice. As we sat outside at dusk, I told my husband all we needed were roosters crowing and a mama cat carrying her kittens to complete the picture perfect moment. And literally seconds later, roosters starting chattering. And then 30 minutes the resident cat walked by (albeit minus any kittens). It is truly a place to experience that Under the Tuscan Sun moment. The true heart of the estate is David himself. David organized everything from airport transportation, to wine tours—and all were top notch! He himself is just a fabulous host and caring proprietor. We can’t say enough about what a great experience we had here. It’s such a gem and we look forward to visiting again!
