Inspirato Members Mike and Brigitte recently traveled to the Maldives to experience what Mike called the most beautiful place on Earth – and the island’s naturally romantic atmosphere was perfect for a special surprise he was planning.
I have visited 66 countries and counting. There is no place on Earth I have personally found to be more beautiful. And, I have never experienced better resort design, resort functioning, dining experiences, or service than that provided by Six Senses Laamu. I only hope we get to go back.

Six Senses’ isolated location means that most visitors won’t leave the grounds during their stay, but that’s part of the appeal. On-site amenities include water sports, restaurants and dining options, and a soothing spa, the signature amenity of the Six Senses brand. Mike and Brigitte made full use of all of the above; however, their itinerary culminated in one very important moment.
“We took advantage of spa treatments, SCUBA, and dining on our own private island — where I popped the question and she said, “Yes!” Mike wrote.
Mike also shared some helpful tips for other members considering a vacation in the Maldives. Given the islands’ remote location, getting there can be a bit complicated, but Mike insists that the end result more than makes up for the journey.
“In considering travel here from the USA, just keep in mind — it’s a long way, but well worth it. Our trip itinerary was:
- 4 flights: LAX to NRT (Japan); NRT to SIN (Singapore); SIN to MLE — all on Singapore Airlines (very nice way to fly); then a short 1 hour hop from MLE (Male, Maldives) to KDO (Kadhdhoo, Maldives), the closest Atoll airport to the resort
- 30 min speed boat ride from KDO to the resort itself”
