Destination Highlights
Valley of the Temples
On Sicily’s southern coast, the Valley of Temples is one of the best-preserved Greek architectural sites in the world, dating back to 400 BC. Walk among them, picturing what life was like on the island thousands of years ago.
Aeolian Islands
This UNESCO-protected, seven-island archipelago is an excellent destination off Sicily’s coast for swimming, sailing, diving, and more. It’s also home to Stromboli, an ancient, massive, active—and hikeable—volcano.
About Sicily, Italy
The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily is situated just off the toe of Italy’s famed boot and is home to historic landmarks and a jaw-dropping coastline. If you’re seeking an Italian beach destination, Sicily is an ideal choice: It’s often less crowded than popular towns on the Amalfi Coast, but just as worthy of a visit. Palermo, Sicily’s capital on the island’s northwest side, is a hot spot for history, architecture, and incredible Sicilian cuisine. On the east side, the coastal town of Taormina offers stunning scenery and an intact ancient Greek theater. Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, presides over it all.
Forecasting your Sicily Vacation
Sicily enjoys a mild climate year-round, thanks to a consistent sea breeze even on the hottest days. You likely won’t be disappointed with a visit at any time of the year. Temperatures tend to stay in the high 70s throughout the summer and high 50s in winter. If swimming and other watersports are at the top of your to-do list, we recommend visiting in August, when the sea is a balmy average temperature of 80℉.
