Ski season is here, and if you’re an avid skier, we probably don’t need to tell you about the Epic and Ikon passes. But if you’re newer to the sport, haven’t yet purchased a pass for this season, or want a breakdown of the differences between passes, we’ve compiled a quick rundown to make it a little easier. Plus, Inspirato members who’ve purchased either pass are at a particular advantage: Many of our residences are in or very near to Ikon or Epic resorts.

Read on to find out how the passes stack up against each other, which resorts to visit, and some exclusive benefits for Inspirato members.

Ikon vs. Epic

The Ikon pass, the pricier pass of the two, is $1,099 and offers access to 41 destinations across the globe, with unlimited skiing and riding at 14 of those resorts and no blackout dates. (The Base pass, a more affordable option at $799, does include blackout dates.)

The Epic pass, coming in at $989, offers access to 79 resorts total, with unlimited access to 36 of those. Plus, the Epic pass offers a “locals” option, making it more affordable for those living in a specific destination, like Colorado, Pennsylvania, or Ohio. It also offers one-to-seven-day versions for those on a specific trip who might not want to foot the bill for a full season.

Where to travel with Ikon

Mont-Tremblant, Canada

Two hours outside of Montreal, Mont-Tremblant boasts 102 trails and world-class skiing conditions. The resort, centered around a Scandinavian-inspired pedestrian village, also features dining, plenty of shopping, and an on-site casino. Stay in the heart of the village at Bondurant, located within walking distance to the runs, or Havre Tremblant, a chic townhome with mountain views and ski-in, ski-out access.

Big Sky, Montana

The second-largest ski resort in the U.S. is nestled among nine different national forests, all beneath the shadow of the majestic Gallatin range and the expansive horizon for which Big Sky is named. Only an hour’s drive from the west entrance of Yellowstone, the resort’s 6,000 acres of skiable terrain, four peaks, and small lift lines make for a can’t-miss ski destination. Take in sweeping mountain views just steps from a private ski trail with standalone Gallatin, and unwind with an après-ski soak in the hot tub at three-bedroom Morningstar.

Where to travel with Epic

With five peaks and the highest chair lift in North America, Breckenridge is a multi-faceted ski destination, offering almost 3,000 skiable acres. Breck was once renowned as a gold mining town, and still pays homage to its roots—more than 250 of its buildings are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Stay at Cimarron, a four-bedroom home just steps from the gondola, or Quandary, tucked into the prestigious Shock Hill neighborhood with hiking and Nordic trails right out the back door.

Northstar, Lake Tahoe, California

Embrace the beauty of Northern California with a stay at Northstar, a laidback-but-luxe retreat just 10 miles from Lake Tahoe known for its family-friendly runs, learning zones, and terrain to suit all levels. Enjoy an aprés-ski beverage and explore the boutiques and restaurants of the charming Village at Northstar. Both three-bedroom Polaris and Sierra offer direct access to the Big Springs Express Gondola right from the building.
