Location

You'll fly into Charleston International Airport (CHS), about an hour's drive from Kiawah Island. Renting a car through club partner Avis is a great option for getting to the island. Your concierge is happy to arrange private airport transportation, as well.

The Sanctuary Hotel offers everything you'll need on-site as well as complimentary transportation around the island and resort, so getting around is a breeze. If you would like to explore beyond the resort or make an easy day trip to Charleston, we recommend a rental car or having your concierge arrange private transportation.

Great property with so much to do

We had a nice time. There is so much to do and keep active. The beaches are beautiful and you can walk for miles. We had some issues with our air conditioning in the room and it was warm while we were there. Otherwise it was a 5!

Excellent

Had a great time at the hotel. Staff was excellent and pool was very nice area. We had a wonderful meal at the steak restaurant at the Sanctuary and would go back again.

Beautiful spot

Amid all the Covid craziness, it was a great trip. Biking, beach time, kayaking, and just some rest.

Great for R&R and golf

Kiawah Island is lovely, and the Sanctuary Resort is too. But be aware that it is a bit remote and activities are limited, if you're not a golfer. Dining options are somewhat limited as well. On the plus side, the staff are wonderful. Every single staff person, including waiters in the restaurants, smiles at you when you pass and gives you a friendly greeting. They are so warm and welcoming, and unerringly polite and helpful. The 3 pool options are nice, but the pools aren't that big FYI. The tennis is excellent -- great pros, and Roy Barth himself gave our son a couple of very helpful spontaneous lessons. The spa is very nice. The beach is lovely (beware, there are lots of jellyfish in the spring, and stingrays in the summer -- we were not able to go in the water due to the many jellyfish along the shoreline). The food at the Sanctuary restaurants is good, especially breakfast. The breakfast buffet is excellent, and the omelette chef was delightful. The problem is that there are only two restaurants for dinner, and one for lunch. That makes for little variety if you're staying there more than a weekend. There are some other options nearby at other resorts/shopping areas, but not necessarily 4 and 5 star options. The cuisine options are somewhat limited as well. Again, for a long weekend, it's great. We were there an entire week, which was a bit too long. We did go into Charleston one day, a little under an hour drive, which was lovely.
