  • My Oh Mayan

    Mayan civilization has fascinated visitors and scholars for thousands of years, as much for their disappearance as for their accomplishments. Learn about this fascinating people who excelled at agriculture, pottery, calendar-making and mathematics and who left behind a great amount of impressive architecture and artwork.

    Tulum. Built on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the ruins feature more than 60 well-preserved structures, dating from the 12th to 15th centuries. The structures are enclosed within three massive walls and include various temples to Mayan gods. Take a tour, then head down the stone staircase to the stunning beach below.

    Xcaret.  Xcaret was once the site of an important port for Mayan navigation and trade. Some of the original structures are still standing. There is also a theme park of the same name on the site, billed as an eco-archaeological park. It features underground rivers that will take you through illuminated caves and caverns and more than 40 attractions based on Mayan nature and culture.
