Location

Riviera Maya is located on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula between Playa del Carmen and Cancún. By car, Hotel Esencia is about one hour from Cancún International Airport (CUN) or about 30 minutes from Tulum International Airport (TQO). The hotel can arrange private transfers by car or helicopter for an additional fee, or taxis are also readily available at the airport.

Once at the hotel, a rental car isn't necessary as taxi and private transportation are available, and most tours include a round-trip transfer. However, if you do decide to rent a car, we recommend renting a car through Club partner Avis.

Spectacular Experience all around

This was one of the best and most relaxing vacations we have ever had. Pictures don't even begin to describe the place or the experience. Casual upscale elegance without feeling stuffy. Each suite/villa feels completely private, so you never feel like you are at a hotel. Service was impeccable and over the top accommodating. All three restaurants were spectacular, and we ended up not leaving for any meals. Private cabanas on the beach with full service. There are things to do if you want, but it was so relaxing that we mostly stayed on property, at the beach and pool or on our roof top terrace. The resort was about 60% - 70% capacity, yet we often felt we had the whole place to ourselves. Private and discreet. Magical. The spa services were excellent, though the spa itself is fairly small. We want to explore many other places in the world, but this may be an annual return trip.

Relax and Relax

The pool villa was exactly as described and the service was great. We took a quick trip, but we were able to unwind immediately upon arrival. Laying under the huts on the beach doing nothing was our favorite part of the trip, although we did get up to hop in the pool occasionally and we took a ride on the small catamaran to snorkel at the reef in front of the hotel. We will certainly plan to visit again.

Great to be in the Sun

We booked this family trip to get out of the NJ cold and into the warmth and sunshine. We definitely got that and enjoyed every moment of the beautiful weather.

The villa was beautiful and offered plenty of space for the 4 of us. (Two adults and our "children" ages 22 and 19). It was awesome having our own pool and hammocks! We also enjoyed our coffee and pastries delivery every morning at our pre-determined time. What we didn't like was the noises at night: Apparently, the amazing thatched roof to our villa is a great place for the animals to run around on while we are trying to sleep. By the third night though, we were used to it.

We loved the 8AM yoga class overlooking the beach on a raised platform deck. AMAZING. Another winner? The food. It was TOP NOTCH. The concierge gave us restaurant recommendations at nearby towns and we ventured off the property for 3 nights. In hindsight, we shouldn't have. The restaurants on property were much nicer and the food was that much better!

Excursions we took part in were the Coba Ruins and a day at the Sian Kaan reserve. Both were worth the hour drive and we all enjoyed seeing the Mayan ruins and swimming through the mangroves. It was also fun to walk down 5th Ave. in Playa Del Carmen at night....totally fun vibes!

Excellent atmosphere and service

The private atmosphere and excellent service at Hotel Escencia was remarkable. We never left the Hotel. There was no reason to go elsewhere!
