Canouan, a 5-square-mile island belonging to the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, has recently blossomed into one of the most sought-after vacation spots for celebrities and well-heeled travelers. It's not just the powdery white sands and coral reefs teeming with marine life that attracts the international jetset crowd—Canouan offers luxury and privacy in spades, with a runway long enough to accommodate private jets, a marina large enough to harbor dozens of mega-yachts, and upscale resorts to cater to travelers' every whim. Still, the island largely remains an unspoiled paradise. Canouan, whose name means "island of the turtles" in the Carib language, is home to more tortoises than residents.
